Katie Walsh, Chair


Katie is pursuing a dual master’s degree from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy and the Urban & Environmental Planning and Policy School, where she studies energy and environmental planning and policy approaches to the development of sustainable cities. She is the incoming Regional Director for New England for the Collegiate Energy Association, current co-Chair of the Fletcher Green environmental club and a graduate research assistant at the Tufts Institute for the Environment. In the summer of 2011, Katie interned at the U.S. Department of Energy working primarily on U.S. – China energy partnerships. Prior to graduate school, Katie was a Fulbright fellow in Taiwan and coordinated international education programs at San Francisco State University and the World Affairs Council of Northern California. She holds a BA in History of Asia from the University of California Santa Cruz. Katie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Emily Chessin, Content Co-Director


Emily is a first-year masters student at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where she focuses her studies on energy and climate change policy and development economics. She is interested in the policy and regulatory regimes that will drive low-carbon development and investments in developing countries. Emily is also a member of Fletcher Green and the Fletcher Energy Consortium. Prior to Fletcher, she worked as a project coordinator at the World Resources Institute (WRI), an environmental think-tank based in Washington, DC. At WRI, she focused on climate change finance and influencing public international financial institutions to better align their investment decisions with environmentally sustainable, socially responsible and climate change goals. Emily holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Gettysburg College.

Guillaume Mascotto, Content Co-Director


Guillaume is a second-year master’s student at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where he concentrates his studies on public policy and international business. Guillaume serves as Academic Chair of the Fletcher Energy Consortium and Co-Chair of the Fletcher Speaker Series on Resource Conflicts. He previously worked as a trade policy analyst at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. He also worked at the Tampere School of Management in Finland where he conducted research on resource risk management in the Arctic and Russia’s energy policy towards China. He is interested in energy use patterns and efficiency technologies with potential to shape the energy industry. He holds a BA and an MA in Political Science from the University of Quebec in Montreal.

Gabrielle Maguire, Sponsorship Director


Gabrielle is a second year of Master of International Business candidate at The Fletcher School, studying International Finance and International Energy Policy. Gabrielle has worked in political consulting in Washington, DC, taught skiing in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and before attending Fletcher, she was Director of Operations for a hedge fund investor in Geneva, Switzerland. This past summer she analyzed eBay’s energy management strategy and sought out opportunities for efficiency and renewables investments there. She holds a BSFS from Georgetown University, focusing on International Development.

Elliott Engelmann, Showcase Co-Director


Elliott is a senior, majoring in Political Science and Environmental Studies. His studies focus on the politics of sustainability, and he is interested in the necessary role of government in meeting environmental challenges. He has done extensive research on energy policy for Environment America in both their D.C. and Boston offices. An avid skier, Elliott is a member of the Tufts alpine racing team, and is on the executive board of the school-run radio station WMFO. He is considering a career in environmental law, and is planning on attending law school after graduating.

Hannah Henderson, Showcase Co-Director


Hannah is a senior, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Engineering Management. For the last two summers, Hannah served as an intern at Lockheed Martin. Hannah was a 3-year varsity swimmer at Tufts and in her final year of school has focused her efforts on pursuing her energy-environmental interests. She is currently the chair of the Tufts branch of the American Society of Engineers and a member of the men’s club water polo team. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Hannah believes that encouraging dialogue on energy-related issues is critical to the long-term health of the environment. She is originally from Santa Barbara, but was raised near Palo Alto, California.

Nicolas Lusardo, Marketing Co-Director


Nicolas is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in International Relations and minoring in Cognitive and Brain Sciences. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Nicolas was an active member of his school’s environmental club—involved in school-wide waste management and reduction, as well as raised-bed garden projects. He was a member of the Marketing Team for the Tufts Energy Conference 2011. Nicolas is an Eco-Rep for Haskell Hall, and a Communications Intern at the Tufts Office of Sustainability.

Geoffrey Finger, Marketing Co-Director


Geoffrey is a first year master’s student at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Prior to graduate school, he worked as outreach manager at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public and as company manager of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. He received his BA from Reed College and is a recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship as well as a Luce Fellowship for Chinese Studies.


Kathleen Hurley, Operations Director


Kathleen is a second year graduate student at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, focusing her studies on environment and resource policy and international organizations. She is particularly interested in natural resource risk, specifically related to water and its impact on business development and political stability. Prior to Fletcher, Kathleen worked for several years as an environmental consultant and scientist, serving clients from both the private and public sectors. She holds an MS in Environmental Science from Western Washington University and a BA in Biology from the University of St. Thomas (MN).

Naum Paykin, Finance Director


Naum is a junior, double-majoring in International Relations with a concentration in International Finance and Economics. He is a member of Sigma-Nu, Tufts Economic Society and AIESEC, a global youth organization that develops leadership capabilities through their internal leadership programs. Naum was born and raised in Russia.



Scott Gardner, Web Director


Scott is a senior, majoring in Computer Science and Philosophy. He spent the summer of 2011 working for a startup company in Cambridge attempting to eliminate paper waste by moving paperwork to the cloud. He is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and plays frisbee for the Tufts Emen. Scott is a native of Massachusetts, hailing from the town of Sudbury.
