What is TEC?

Beginning from two small panel sessions in 2006, the Tufts Energy Conference has grown to become one of the largest entirely student-run conferences in New England. Lead by a seasoned team of conference planners and a support network of many esteemed advisers, the conference attracts leading minds in the energy industry and interested students to discuss applications of innovative ideas and solutions the most pertinent energy challenges of today. Past themes have examined commercializing new technologies, the effort of modernizing the grid, and the impact of a growing solar power presence in the energy industry.

When and where is the 2012 Tufts Energy Conference?

The 2012 Conference will take place Friday, April 20th, and Saturday, April 21th, 2012 at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, home to The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, The Tufts School of Engineering, and The School of Urban and Environmental Planning.

What is the theme of the 2012 Tufts Energy Conference?

The theme for the 2012 conference is “Transforming the Global Energy Debate: From Challenges to Solutions.” Six exciting and educational panels will explore such pivotal questions as: What role will fossil fuels play as part of a diverse and secure low-carbon energy mix? What policies and regulatory measures can be employed for upgrading the safety and security of existing and planned nuclear facilities? How do developing countries plan to meet growing energy demand while at the same time alleviating poverty, sustaining the environment and addressing climate change? In the U.S., how should the role of the government and the private sector evolve to close the financing gap for renewable energy? What are the new management approaches being developed to address the trade-offs between water consumption and energy production?

Who can attend the 2012 Tufts Energy Conference?

Anyone with an interest in energy can attend the event, including students, industry leaders, professionals, academics and policymakers.

How do I register for the 2012 Tufts Energy Conference?

Registration for the 2012 conference is available through Eventbrite; a live link will be listed on our website on March 1st.  After completing registration you will receive your e-ticket to the event by e-mail. You may also register at the door of the event; however, we cannot guarantee availability of conference materials to walk-in registrants.

When can I register?

Tickets are now available! Tickets to the Tufts Energy Conference are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Space to some events is limited so we recommend you register early! Follow this link to eventbrite to purchase yours now: http://tuftsenergyconference2012.eventbrite.com/

**Tufts Students who enter the Tufts Energy Competition will receive discounted tickets.

Does my conference ticket include meals?
Yes, your ticket includes the following:

  • Coffee breaks
  • Light snack on Friday, April 20, 2012
  • Breakfast on Saturday, April 21, 2012
  • Lunch on Saturday, April 21, 2012

What is the refund policy?

If you become unable to attend, you may request a refund of your ticket by contacting us at tuftsenergyconference2012@gmail.com. Requests for refunds must be submitted no later than April 9, 2012. Please allow up to three weeks for us to process your request.

Can I transfer my ticket to someone else in my organization?
Yes, tickets to the Tufts Energy Conference are transferable, but you must contact us by email tuftsenergyconference2012@gmail.com for us to process your request.

Are there any discounts on tickets?

Some discounts are available to employees of companies sponsoring the conference. Please contact your employer for information on how to obtain a discount code. The Tufts Energy Conference reserves the right to offer any discount to any party at any time.

How do I know if my registration was processed successfully?

You will receive an e-ticket via e-mail and a receipt of payment from Eventbrite after registration. If you encounter difficulties or do not receive one of these items, please contact us at tuftsenergyconference2012@gmail.com.

Programming FAQ

Where can I find the schedule of events?

The Tufts Energy Conference Agenda will be posted on the conference website. You will receive a packet when you check in on April 20th or 21st containing the most up-to-date program.

How can my company or organization be represented at the conference? (SPONSORSHIP)

There are numerous opportunities for businesses, organizations and students alike to ‘get involved’ in the 2012 Tufts Energy Conference. Please consider becoming a contributing sponsor for the event if your organization is interested in participating in the intellectual exchange of technologies and projects at the Showcase on Friday evening. Logistics FAQ

How do I get to Tufts University?

Consult the Venue of this site. If you are staying in a hotel in Cambridge, we recommend taking the MBTA Red Line to Davis Square. A Tufts University shuttle (nicknamed the Joey) runs every 15-20 minutes from the subway station to the Tufts Medford campus.

Conference attendees may park for free at one of two locations:

1) The Fletcher School Parking Lot located on Curtis Street, Medford, MA 02155.

2) The Dowling Hall Parking Garage, 419 Boston Avenue, Medford, MA 02155.

When does registration check-in open on the days of the conference?

Registration opens at 1 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday. The registration desk is located in the Cabot Intercultural Center at The Fletcher School.

How do I choose the workshops I attend?

About a week before the event you will receive an e-mail with a link to a page with workshop descriptions for you to rank in order of preference. We will make every effort to accommodate your top choice; however, space requirements may limit the number of seats at each workshop.

I have special dietary needs. What should I do?

Meals are served buffet style with selections that include vegetarian options. Coffee and light refreshments will be available through most of the day. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate them.

What is the conference attire?

Business casual attire is recommended.

Is there wireless internet access?

Thanks to University Information Technology, wireless internet access on the Tufts network is included with your registration. One week before the conference you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to activate your service. You may register your computer at https://student.support.tufts.edu/network_registrations/new. On this page, select the second option, “I am attending a conference or event (short-term access).” This will lead you to a registration page where you will fill out a short form, choose the Tufts Energy Conference from the drop-down list, and provide your MAC address. You must know your MAC address to register your computer.
