About TEC

Beginning from two small panel sessions in 2006, the Tufts Energy Conference has grown to become one of the largest entirely student-run conferences in New England. Lead by a seasoned team of conference planners and a support network of many esteemed advisers, the conference attracts leading minds in the energy industry and interested students to discuss applications of innovative ideas and solutions the most pertinent energy challenges of today. Past themes had examined commercializing new technologies, the effort of modernizing the grid, and the impact of a growing solar power presence in the energy industry.

Members of the Tufts Energy Forum are the primary organizers of the Tufts Energy Conference. TEF, an undergraduate-oriented student group, was founded as the Energy Security Initiative in 2005, under the auspices of the Institute for Global Leadership’s EPIIC Oil & Water Colloquium. In addition to providing a venue for students to make connections with the businesspeople, academics, scientists, and politicians who shape the world of energy today,TEF strives to create a fun and informative environment in which to learn about energy at weekly meetings, field trips, movie screenings and speaker events. It supports independent student research, with members having completed nearly 20 projects in dozens of cities and countries around the world.

This year we are pleased to welcome members of the Fletcher Energy Consortium to the conference planning group, making the event a true Tufts University effort. FLEC is a graduate student organization at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, the oldest professional graduate school of international affairs in the United States. Established in 2008, FLEC is dedicated to providing a platform to students, researchers and faculty to share their ideas and research on energy-related topics both within and outside the Fletcher community. Recognizing the diversity of issues related to energy, FLEC seeks to create a consortium which takes an interdisciplinary approach to discussing the role and impact of businesses, governments and civil society on the future of energy in all its forms in the international arena.
